FAQs about Private Pay Therapy Rates

  • I am a private pay practice and do not bill insurance directly. However, if you receive Out of Network (OON) benefits from your insurance coverage I can offer a receipt for you to request reimbursement from your insurance carrier if applicable.

  • I am currently accepting debit or credit cards, and HSA cards. I use Simple Practice to manage billing and payments.

  • Private pay therapy offers:

    • Greater confidentiality

    • More flexibility in treatment

    • Freedom to work at the depth and pace that fits you

Many of my clients value a therapeutic space that is fully theirs and not influenced by insurance requirements.

  1. Before your call make sure you have

    - Insurance card - Name, date of birth, address, phone number, or possibly social security number of the cardholder or person for whom the services are for

    - CPT Code for Individual Therapy: 90834

  2. Call your insurance company and ask...

    1. Do I have a mental or behavioral health policy with out-of-network benefits?

    2. What are the requirements to use out-of-network benefits?

    3. Is prior authorization required?

    4. Is a referral required from my primary care physician?

    5. Do I have an out-of-network deductible?

  3. If "Yes" to all the above, ask these questions:

    1. What is my out-of-network deductible?

    2. How much of my out-of-network deductible has been met?

    3. What is the start date of the calendar year my out-of-network policy is based on?

    4. How much is the insurance company’s “usual and customary fee” and what percentage do they cover?
